An aluminum pipe with the word “Kaboom” written on it led to the evacuation of Akron City Hall on Wednesday. Turns out it was a walking stick, and “Kaboom” was the owner’s name. Really.

FORT WALTON BEACH — A man who pulled out his pants pockets to show a Fort Walton Beach Police officer he wasn’t carrying drugs didn’t count on a plastic bag of cocaine falling to the ground.

Police Blotter of the Day: Athens man sang national anthem while tied up by robber

An Athens man told police he sang the national anthem to himself during an armed robbery on Athens’ Eastside two months ago. …

He told officers that as he was leaving a business at 50 Gaines School Road, a man he knew as “Mario” pulled a gun on him and made him go back inside, where he stole a wallet, cash, a pocketknife and an iPhone from the victim’s pockets, police said.

Mario then bound the man’s wrists with zip-ties and tried to lock him in a bathroom, police said.

“He waited until he had sung the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ in his head before exiting the bathroom,” according to police.

The victim told police he was riding his bike about 8 a.m. Sunday when Michael A. Baker, whom he does not know, came up to him “and started swinging sausage links at him,” Lt. David Dickinson said Sunday.

“He said he was trying to hit him with that. The victim had no idea why,” Dickinson said.

Police Blotter of the Day: Cop twice uses Taser on mom at Mississippi middle school

A police officer working as a school resource officer in northern Mississippi twice stunned the mother of a Guntown Middle School pupil with a Taser during a heated argument at the school Wednesday morning.

The woman — identified as Michele Lee Eaton, 39, of Saltillo, about 15 miles north of Tupelo — was arrested on disorderly conduct, public profanity and other charges.

Guntown is where Adam Mayes, who allegedly killed a Tennessee woman and one of her daughters before  killing himself earlier this month, was spotted on a convenience store surveillance camera.

Police Blotter of the Day: Driver throws hammer at motorist yakking on cellphone

The man called 911 and reported he was just passed by a car driven by a 44-year-old Waterloo man who suddenly stopped his car in the middle of the roadway, forcing the caller to stop in the roadway, at which point the man in the car began waving a hammer at the other man yelling “get off the phone,” he then allegedly threw the hammer at the caller. …

“These types of conflicts can easily go bad and are best left to authorities,” stated Sheriff Todd Nehls.

Police Blotter of the Day: Pet store allegedly cuts off dog’s ear, then glues it back on

Gladys Kapuwai of Honolulu says in a lawsuit that she took Dodo, a Gilzale and Pomeranian-Maltese mix, for grooming last year July and realized a couple of days later that one of Dodo’s ears had been cut.

“When I took her to the vet, the doctor had told me it looked like they tried to glue it back,” Kapuwi said.

“I couldn’t believe what they did. I started crying, because this is our baby, too, you know.”
